Coonley TAP 2010 Video Posted on 6/19/2010 by TAP
Posted on 4/27/2010 by TAP The Coonley TAP Team has had a busy year. In August 2009 after receiving a Fund for Teachers Grant, the team spent two weeks in NYC studying the Readers/Writers Workshop with Lucy Calkins at Columbia University. In March 2010, the team travelled to Washington, DC to attend the National TAP Conference with other TAP schools from around the country. In April 2010, the team presented at the 9th Annual Practitioner Research Forum through National Louis University. This year cluster meetings have been busy and productive. In the fall, BIG FOX was rolled out to assist students in using text features (Bold, Italic, Graphics, Fact, Opinions, and X-marks the spot) to comprehend non-fiction text. The winter brought a focus on self-questioning, a skill that all readers need. This spring we are working on answering the questions that we ask through the text, book & brain (inference) or through research or ask someone. These strategies help students to monitor their own comprehension and thinking about their thinking (metacognition) so that they can apply these skills to anything they read. We are currently working on strategies to assist students with finding the main idea while reading in preparation for Fall 2010.
