The number line    Posted on 9/8/2010 by Mr.Carpenter

Today in math we learned about the number line.  The number line is a math tool that helps us add and subtract.  Here is a short video about how to use this important math tool.

Read one book, and record it on your book log.  If you read two or more, please only record one.

Orientation    Posted on 9/5/2010 by Mr.Carpenter

Thank you to everyone who came to orientation.  It was great to meet all of the parents and students!  We are going to have an AWESOME year! Cool

Here is some additional information for the beginning of the school year.

1) Homework workbooks will be sent home, and will stay there.  Students will complete assignments daily, and will hand them in the following day.  Homework will be posted on this website.

2) Behavior: Students will be on the red, yellow, green system.  Each student will have cards on his or her desk.  All cards will be green (good) at the beginning of the day.  When a student is disruptive and/or breaks our classroom rules, they will loose their green card, revealing a yellow card underneath.  Students on yellow may miss some recess time.  However, students can earn their cards back by excellent behavior.  Students on red will lose recess and a parent will be notified.  Students on green at the end of the day will receive a raffle ticket for our Friday raffle.

3) Supplies:  Please see the Coonley main page for our supply list.  Some supplies will be shared by our classroom (tissue, paper towels, reams of paper, dry erase markers, wipes, etc).  Each student will have a pencil box or zipper bag of individual supplies.  These will be assembled at school.  Please write your child's name on the big shopping bag of supplies.

4) Pencils:  Although the supply list shows 20-30 pencils, you should leave MOST of these at home.  On the first day, please send your child with 5 SHARPENED pencils.  We will use 3 for the desk, and the other 2 will be backups.  Pencils will be sent home daily for sharpening.  Please make sure your child comes to school with 3 sharpened pencils EVERY day!  If you have already sent a box of pencils with your child, I will take out 5 pencils and send the remaining pencils home.
